Condition based Monitoring with the LoRaWAN easybox

A. Hock erweitert Produktportfolio mit End-to-End-Komplettlösung

A. Hock has launched a new product in 2023: the LoRaWAN easybox. An end-to-end complete solution for monitoring plant components using LoRaWAN technology. The box allows companies to set up a LoRaWAN network, read out measurement data from LoRa sensors and display it graphically - the ideal introduction to "condition-based monitoring", which is becoming increasingly relevant. And thus for more safety, machine efficiency and transparency in companies.

End-to-End-Solution for Condition Monitoring

Problems solved with the LoRaWAN easybox

The LoRaWAN easybox provides the perfect solution for companies that do not have an existing LoRaWAN network. Or want to integrate LoRaWAN into their own network, but have little network knowledge or experts. Effort and costs for this can be avoided with the easybox from A. Hock.

These are the advantages for users:

  • fast setup of an own LoRaWAN network

  • cost-effective and flexible solution for monitoring plant components

  • Data remains within the company thanks to on-premise installation

Possibility of condition-based monitoring without having to worry about the infrastructure.

The areas of application of the A. Hock easybox

The easybox can be used in a variety of ways: for vibration measurements of rotating plant components, for pressure measurements as well as for condition monitoring of manually operated valves.

Big advantage: It is not restricted to Honeywell transmitters, but can acquire data from LoRaWAN sensors regardless of manufacturer.

The combination of the LoRaWAN easybox and Honeywell Versatilis™ sensors is particularly useful when several components in the plant are to be monitored. For this purpose, the easybox provides a network for the sensors, a graphical display of the sensor data and an alarm function in the event of malfunctions.

One easybox can easily collect and archive data from sensors within a 2km (outdoor) radius.

Technical details: the components of the easybox

The LoRaWAN easybox consists of several components, including an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), a gateway that can manage up to 2000 sensors, a LoRaWAN antenna for optimal range, a pre-configured Wifi router, a switch and the box itself.

Connectivity with the Honeywell Versatilis™ Transmitter

The easybox can be operated seamlessly with a Honeywell Versatilis™ transmitter. If the transmitters are purchased together with the easybox, integration and testing is performed directly by A. Hock specialists. A dashboard displaying all sensors is also provided.

Good to know: Depending on requirements, the dashboard can be adapted to specific customer applications.

The transmitters can be evaluated individually via Bluetooth. The simultaneous data readout of several transmitters is only possible thanks to LoRaWAN technology - an enormous plus point!

The transmitters send their encrypted sensor data via LoRaWAN to the gateway at regular intervals. From there, the data is forwarded to the network and application server "Chripstack" and finally ends up in Experion EHM and Grafana. The graphical interface that the user sees is the Experion Dashboard or the Grafana Dashboard.

The LoRaWAN easybox on customer site

The A.Hock LoRaWAN easybox was developed to provide a fully integrated LoRaWAN system.

The first easybox was installed and commissioned together with 10 Honeywell Versatilis™ transmitters in July 2023 at Honeywell Elster in Mainz. During a short test phase, numerous new use cases have already been developed in collaboration with the company's maintenance team.

The big goal: to collect data from various sensors, evaluate it and use it for more advanced steps such as predictive maintenance.
This collected information around the LoRaWAN easybox will be presented by A. Hock's technical experts at customer days and official trade fairs in September 2023.
